There is nothing quite like the Oregon Coast. Wild, beautiful, unspoiled and stunning. While there are many little towns to visit in this area, Newport is one of our favorites. This quirky town has something for everyone and is a hidden gem.
Newport is close to a few historic lighthouses.
Rogue Brewery is located in Newport and has 2 locations in town.
We stayed at the South Beach State Park Campground and loved the close proximity to this amazing beach.

You can hear the sounds of Sea Lions all over Newport. Make sure to stop by the docks to see these boisterous creatures. (Be sure to give them space, these animals are large & wild)
You'll find activities on both sides of this beautiful bridge that spans the bay in Newport.
Be sure to check out the local shops on Bay Street & the Historic Nye Beach area. Our favorites were: Archway market (Nye Beach area) & Femme Fatale (Bay Street area).
The Oregon Coast Aquarium is full of interactive exhibits that your kids will love.
Experience three different underwater tunnels including the Passage of the Deep and see these beautiful creatures up close.
Local Pacific Northwest sealife is on display in the Coastal Waters exhibit.
Be sure to check out the Nature Play Area with your kids. Beautifully built, it was one of the highlights of our visit to the aquarium.
The grounds of the aquarium are stunning. Set on a former lumber mill, the landscaping and pathways created through the outdoor spaces are beautiful and full of more than 100 different plant species.
The Yaquina Head Lighthouse has been lighting the shore of Newport since 1873! We highly recommend checking out the museum, walking the grounds and taking the tour of the inside.

The Rogue Brewing Company has two locations in Newport, OR. Their main plant, tasting room & restaurant are located across the Yaquina Bay Bridge near the aquarium. The smaller restaurant & brewery is located on Bay Street.
Come see where all the Rogue beer comes from! The tasting room/restaurant also has good food and views of the water & boats in Newport.
40 beers on tap! So many great beers to choose from. Ryan's favorite is the Dead Guy Ale.
Just over the bridge from the town center, you'll find boardwalks and coastal bike trails.
Be sure to take in the sights of the fishing boats & listen for those noisy sea lions!
This playground is simple but has an amazing slide! Climb on up the hill and take a wild ride down from the ship above.
While the large bridge spanning the bay isn't bike friendly, the south side of Newport which houses the aquarium, Rogue Brewing Company, and the South Beach State Park beach is a great place to bike around!
Beaches in Oregon may not be as warm as the ones in California, but you can still play in the waves and have a great time! Be sure to check out Nye beach and South Beach State Park.

We found two fun playgrounds in Newport. One called Coast Park near Nye Beach and the other inside the Aquarium. Be sure to give yourself lots of time at both. They might be small, but we played at them for hours!
This is a wonderful aquarium and one that shouldn't be missed. We loved the natural setting, information on local sea life and the fun playground.
Breweries are generally known to be more kid friendly. Rogue is especially so. Each kids meal is served on a Rogue Frisbee that your child gets to keep. We loved the food as much as the many tasty beers we tried.
