This outstanding park boasts a safe campground (within an electric fence to keep the bears out) clean, well kept spaces, a playground, ranger station with a small store, and the incomparable hot springs. The springs are safe for kids, as some sections have a lower temperature. The springs even include a fun section to adventure under fallen trees into a section carved into nature.
The signpost forest was created in 1942 while the ALCAN was being constructed. It is a MUST SEE attraction and a great way to stretch your legs on a pitt stop from driving. It has over 77,000 signs posted. Stop, wander and check out signs from all over the world that have been left by other travelers. You can also add your own sign to be a part of this great tradition.
Whitehorse is a great to either take a break from driving or to stay the night. The SS Klondike is a historic riverboat that you can tour located right on the famous Yukon River. Up the road from Whitehorse we did a detour to an awesome new spa that just opened it's doors at the Takhini Hot Springs called Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs. It has a beautiful set up with pools to relax in, sauna rooms and a small cafe.
We saw a lot of wild life along the ALCAN. The section we drove from Liard Hot Springs to Fort St. John was the best for seeing animals for us. We saw several herds of bison, black bear, caribou, deer and a hawk that day. Other days we saw moose and coyotes.
We stopped and spent the afternoon in Quesnel. We enjoyed the Farmer's Market, large playground and splash park and a local coffee place, The Den, by Moon Shine Coffee Roasters. It was a great place to slow down and enjoy a break from driving.
